Serena’s Ex-Hitting Partner Sascha Bajin Offers to Coach Coco Gauff After She Parts Ways with Brad Gilbert
Coco Gauff has decided to make a coaching change following a disappointing summer, parting ways with coach Brad Gilbert after 14 months together. Despite her 2023 success, including a WTA 1000 win in Cincinnati and her first Grand Slam victory at the US Open, Gauff struggled this season, with early exits at Wimbledon, the Paris Olympics, and the US Open.
After Gilbert confirmed the split, Sascha Bajin, who previously worked with Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka, expressed his interest in joining Gauff’s team, saying, “I’m ready. They just need to call.” Bajin’s resume includes guiding Osaka to her first two Grand Slam titles and working with top players like Karolina Pliskova and Dayana Yastremska.
Rick Macci, Serena’s childhood coach, believes Gauff needs biomechanical adjustments to improve her serve and forehand, areas where she’s struggled recently. Gauff has acknowledged the need for improvement and is open to exploring new coaching options to overcome her mental hurdles and return to form.
