Irish golfer Shane Lowry was left speechless after a reporter made a surprising admission during an interview ahead of the Tour Championship at East Lake in Georgia. The encounter unfolded when American broadcaster Ali Mac asked Lowry which celebrity or famous person he would choose to have a drink with and chat.
Without hesitation, Lowry responded, “I’d love to have a drink with Oasis!” However, he quickly realized something was amiss when Mac appeared confused. Sensing her uncertainty, Lowry asked if she knew who the Britpop band Oasis was. To his astonishment, the reporter’s blank expression made it clear that she had no idea.
Surprised by her lack of familiarity, Lowry exclaimed, “You don’t know who Oasis are? Oh my gosh, you’re obviously way younger than me. This is the biggest news ever. You need to look up Oasis… blasphemy.”
Despite the awkward moment, Mac took it in stride, joking, “I just ruined this whole interview. I’m so sorry.” Lowry then urged her to familiarize herself with the iconic band as soon as the interview was over.
Proving that she kept her promise, Mac later responded to Lowry’s post on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a screenshot of herself listening to Oasis’ hit song “Wonderwall” with the caption, “Me right now.”
Lowry, like many fans of the legendary band, is likely eagerly anticipating the much-rumored Oasis reunion, with tickets expected to go on sale soon. However, for now, the No. 32-ranked player is focused on preparing for the season-ending Tour Championship.
Reflecting on his participation in the prestigious event, Lowry admitted, “It’s almost embarrassing that I haven’t been here [before]. It’s always a goal at the start of the year and, thankfully, this year I got to achieve it.”
He added, “I give shots to my friends every day at home, but my friends are not Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele. I think, yeah, it is new, but a good start the first day and you’re back in the tournament … in my head, I’m seeing it as like a five-round event that I’ve got three-under the first round and I’m seven back of the leader, and I need to kind of pick away at that over the four days and see where it leaves me on Sunday.”
