Rory McIlroy was spotted offering swing advice to football icon Gareth Bale during the celebrity Pro-Am at the BMW PGA Championship in Wentworth, creating a memorable crossover between the worlds of football and golf.
In front of a large crowd, McIlroy, one of golf’s top players, shared insights with Bale, a five-time Champions League winner and former Real Madrid star. Despite the buzz around them, McIlroy took the time to explain his approach to the swing.
“When I’m focusing on my swing, especially before a tournament, I sometimes lose sight of the target because I’m too caught up in thinking about my hands,” McIlroy explained. “But the real focus should be out there [gesturing towards the course]. It’s tough to separate the two, to leave the practice mindset on the range and just go out and play.”
As the pair continued their conversation around the course, McIlroy went deeper into his swing philosophy, saying, “For me, the most important part of the swing is two feet before impact. I used to lose speed because I wasn’t strong enough to hold the swing. So, I worked hard to fix that.”
It was a fascinating exchange between two sports legends, offering a rare glimpse into McIlroy’s swing techniques.
