The Canisius golf team tied for ninth place with a two-round score of 594, as they wrapped up the first event of the fall season at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial, held on Sunday at Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, New York.
Competing in a field of 15 teams, Canisius finished level with Binghamton and was the lowest-scoring MAAC school among the three in the tournament. They were just one stroke behind their long-time rival, St. Bonaventure.
Senior Ryan Edholm led the way for Canisius, shooting a one-under 71 on Sunday to finish in a seven-way tie for 12th place with a total score of 145 over two rounds. One of the players tied with Edholm was his sophomore teammate, Alex Schickling, who carded a 73 in the second round after an even-par 72 on Saturday.
Navy and Seton Hall shared the team championship, each posting a two-round score of 573, which was three under par. Villanova’s Ryan Palmer claimed individual medalist honors with a tournament score of 138, shooting a five-under 67 on Saturday and a 71 on Sunday.
The Canisius golf team will return to action on September 7-8, when they compete at The Colonel Shootout, hosted by Eastern Kentucky in Richmond, Kentucky.
