Stephen Curry, the Golden State Warriors star and NBA Finals rival to James, was the first NBA player to openly criticize then-President Donald Trump. In 2017, Curry, typically seen as a clean-cut, drama-free superstar, didn’t shy away from expressing his views on the 45th president of the United States. When asked about Trump, Curry quipped, “I agree with that description if you remove the ‘et’ from asset,” a pointed response to the Under Armour CEO’s claim that Trump was an asset to the company.
While many public figures spoke out against Trump, Curry’s remarks were particularly noteworthy given his usually reserved nature. His comments marked a clear stance against Trump, contrasting sharply with the opinions of some business leaders. Yet, in the current social climate, Curry has chosen a different approach to showcasing his patriotism.
Reflecting on his time with Team USA, Curry emphasized the importance of unity both on and off the court. “That unity reminded us all that together we can do all things and continue to inspire the world,” he said. Curry believes that Kamala Harris, as President, could restore this sense of unity and move the country forward. Instead of mocking Trump, Curry channeled his passion for his country to encourage people to vote for Harris, emphasizing the need to preserve hope and belief in America.
