Scottie Scheffler heads into Masters week as the favorite among oddsmakers, a position reminiscent of Tiger Woods’ prime dominance. Having won two of his last three starts and narrowly missed forcing a playoff in the third, the 27-year-old holds the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking, solidifying his status as the frontrunner for this year’s tournament.
Regulated sportsbooks such as BetMGM, BetRivers, and DraftKings all have Scheffler as the consensus favorite at +400 odds, with his closest competitor being Rory McIlroy at +1100 or +1000, depending on the platform. Despite McIlroy’s No. 2 world ranking, he’s yet to secure a victory at Augusta National, adding pressure to snap his decade-long major drought.
Scheffler’s dominance is reflected in the betting statistics, leading the field with 8.1% of total winning bets and 18.7% of total money wagered since opening at +900 odds at BetMGM. However, his success also makes him a significant liability for the bookmakers.
Brooks Koepka, a five-time major champion, presents another formidable contender, particularly given his strong performances at Augusta in recent years. Despite opening at +2000 odds, Koepka commands attention, holding 8.0% of bets and 11.8% of money wagered at BetMGM.
The emotional favorite Tiger Woods, returning to the Masters after a tumultuous period, is a longshot at +15000 odds. His narrative revolves around whether he can make a record-breaking 24th consecutive cut at Augusta.
Defending champion Jon Rahm, part of the LIV Golf roster, enters the tournament with the third-shortest odds across all three books. Rahm’s signing with LIV in December adds intrigue to his performance, with odds set at +1200 or +1100.
While Koepka leads the total money wagered at DraftKings with 13%, Scheffler maintains a strong presence with 11%. Hideki Matsuyama, another former Masters champion, also garners attention with 6% of the money backing him for a second green jacket.
With a field boasting talent and storylines aplenty, this year’s Masters promises excitement and unpredictability as golf’s elite vie for the prestigious green jacket.
