Steve Stricker is still holding out hope of teaming up with Tiger Woods at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and plans to broach the subject when they meet at Sawgrass next week.
Despite acknowledging the slim odds of making it happen, Stricker is keen on discussing the possibility of partnering with Woods at the only team event on the PGA Tour calendar, scheduled for the end of April.
“I’ve been contemplating asking him if he’d like to play in New Orleans at the team event,” shared Stricker.
Speaking at the PGA Tour Champions Cologuard Classic in Tucson, Stricker revealed that he hasn’t yet approached Woods about the idea but intends to do so during their rendezvous at The Players Championship next week.
Reflecting on their past experiences as teammates, Stricker expressed his desire to relive those moments with Woods. “I may have mentioned it casually during a podcast, musing about the idea of reuniting,” he added.
Acknowledging Woods’s current priorities and challenges, Stricker remains realistic about the likelihood of their partnership materializing but finds joy in the prospect nonetheless.
With Woods expected to return to competitive play at The Masters in April and aiming for a reduced schedule focused on major tournaments, his participation in lower-profile events like the Zurich Classic remains uncertain.
In addition to his musings on a potential collaboration with Woods, Stricker weighed in on the ongoing developments in the golf world, particularly the emergence of LIV Golf and its implications for the sport.
While expressing optimism about the eventual reconciliation between LIV Golf players and the PGA Tour, Stricker emphasized the need for resolution and potential consequences for those seeking to return to the fold.
He echoed the sentiment of many within the golfing community, hoping for a future where all players, regardless of affiliations, can compete together harmoniously on the global stage.
