The beautiful dream of Slovakia in the Billie Jean King Cup continues! After a sensational victory against the US, and then an equally unexpected defeat to Australia, the team of our southern neighbors won in the semi-finals of the tournament with the United Kingdom! Thus, Slovaks, of whom only one is currently classified in the top 100 of the WTA ranking, will play in the grand final of the competition, where they will face the Italians, i.e. the pogroms of Iga Świątek and the companies.In the first match, the Slovaks had to face the United States national team. The American women started this clash with Taylor Townsend’s single victory against Renata Jamrichova (7:5, 6:4), but later things went badly for them. Rebecca Sramkova came into the game, which managed to beat, definitely higher in the WTA ranking, Danielle Collins 6:2, 7:5.The final decision had to be decided by the doubles match. In it, the Slovaks were also better: Viktoria Hruncakova and Tereza Mihalikova defeated Ashlyn Krueger and Taylor Townsend 6:3, 3:6, 10-8, and this meant that the American women finished their adventure in the tournament in the first round.In the quarter-finals, the Slovaks came to the Australian women and in this competition there was no longer a doubles meeting. They won 2-0 after Hruncakova’s victories with Kimberly Birrell (7-5, 6-7, 6-3), as well as Sramkova with Ajla Tomljanovic (6-1 6-2). In this way, they advanced to the semi-finals in which they faced the United Kingdom.

And here they could also enjoy the victory! And this is all the more admirable, because it began with the defeat of Viktoria Hruncakova with Emma Raducan 4:6, 4:6. But then it was only better. In the second match, Rebecca Sramkova won against Katie Boulter, despite the defeat in the first set (2:6, 6:4, 6:4), and in the doubles competition Hruncakova and Tereza Mihalikov did not give the chance to Olivia Nicholls and Heather Watson, breaking the British 6:2, 6:2.

This is an incredible success of the national team, captained by Matej Liptak, because for the last time in the semi-finals of this tournament she played… in 2013. It is also worth adding that only Sramkova is ranked in the top 100 of the WTA ranking (43rd place).
