Cleveland Browns’ rookie quarterback, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, returned to practice on Wednesday after being sidelined due to a concussion suffered in Week 12. Although still in the concussion protocol, he participated in practice as a limited player, marking a positive step in his recovery.
Thompson-Robinson’s absence led to veteran quarterback Joe Flacco stepping in as the starter in Week 13, where he completed 23 of 44 passes for 254 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception against the Rams. Head Coach Kevin Stefanski stated that Thompson-Robinson’s progress in the concussion protocol would determine the starting quarterback for the upcoming Week 14 matchup against the Jaguars.
Stefanski emphasized the importance of evaluating Thompson-Robinson’s condition throughout the week before making a decision. During the media-accessible portion of practice, Flacco took the initial reps in drills, while Thompson-Robinson followed suit.
The Browns have faced quarterback challenges throughout the season, with Thompson-Robinson taking over as the starter following Deshaun Watson’s season-ending injury. Before the concussion, Thompson-Robinson started two games, completing 38 of 72 passes for 299 yards, one touchdown, and an interception against the Steelers and Broncos in Weeks 11 and 12.
Stefanski acknowledged Thompson-Robinson’s improvement over the season, praising his work ethic and dedication to enhancing his skills. Despite the uncertainties in the quarterback situation, the team remains focused on the upcoming home games, hoping for Thompson-Robinson’s availability to bolster their offensive lineup.
As the Browns navigate through their quarterback decisions, the return of Thompson-Robinson to practice signifies a positive development, and the coaching staff remains optimistic about his continued progress as the season unfolds.
