As Tiger Woods gears up for his pursuit of a sixth green jacket at the prestigious Masters tournament in Augusta, he’s delivered a serious warning to his son, Charlie. Despite the father-son duo sharing a passion for golf, Tiger has made a candid admission to his 15-year-old prodigy: Charlie’s hitting the ball longer than him, and as a result, he’ll no longer be allowed to tee off from the members tees at Augusta National.
Charlie, who aspires to follow in his father’s footsteps and make a career out of golf, has already showcased his talent by competing in a PGA qualifier. In a testament to his rapid progression, he’s now out-driving his legendary father, prompting Tiger to implement a strict rule for their next round at Augusta National.
Reflecting on their recent golf outings, Tiger revealed, “We haven’t played in a couple of years now. He wanted to be at home, so I came up here and got a chance to play with the chairman and others, and we had an absolute blast.” Expressing his desire to share more experiences on the course with Charlie, Tiger acknowledged that his son’s newfound distance off the tee means their days of playing from the members tees are over.
Charlie’s journey in competitive golf hasn’t been without its setbacks, such as a disappointing performance in a PGA Tour event where he recorded a high score. However, there have been moments of triumph, including winning the Class 1A state golf championship in Florida, where he received recognition for his achievement.
Tiger has been actively involved in supporting Charlie’s golfing endeavors, including caddying for him at the PNC Championship pro-am last December. Praising his son’s progress, Tiger noted, “His speed has gone dramatically up this year.” He also emphasized the value of providing guidance to Charlie, relishing the opportunity to share his insights and thought process on the game.
As Tiger prepares to compete for another green jacket, his second event of the year following a withdrawal from The Genesis Invitational in February, he continues his journey back to full fitness after undergoing ankle fusion surgery. Despite the challenges, Tiger remains committed to his legacy in golf while nurturing the talent and ambition of his son, Charlie.
