Tiger Woods’ Ex-Coach Hank Haney Reflects on the Upcoming Tech-Infused TGL Golf Series
Hank Haney, former coach to legendary golfer Tiger Woods, has shared his thoughts on the highly anticipated TGL, a tech-driven golf series co-created by Woods and fellow PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy. Set to launch in January 2025, TGL is already creating waves across the internet as the first season nears.
Haney’s Excitement for TGL
Recently, prominent golf writer Bob Harig posted a video on his X account (formerly Twitter) showcasing Rickie Fowler practicing on a simulator designed for TGL matches. Hank Haney, a respected figure in the golf world, reshared the clip, expressing his excitement for the innovative series. In his post, Haney wrote:
“I hope this whole TGL deal comes off as good as it looks because it could be great for golf. Can’t wait to see it.”
Haney’s enthusiasm mirrors the growing anticipation among golf enthusiasts, who are eager to see how TGL’s unique approach to the sport unfolds.
A Revolutionary Format for Golf
What sets TGL apart is its groundbreaking format. Unlike traditional golf tournaments, matches will be held indoors at the state-of-the-art SoFi Center. Players will take their shots on a massive digital screen, specifically designed to replicate the experience of playing on an actual golf course.
Additionally, TGL will adopt a team-based structure. Six teams, each composed of four players, will compete during the inaugural season. This format is expected to add a fresh dynamic to the game, fostering both camaraderie and competitive spirit among players.
When Does TGL Begin?
Originally slated to begin in January 2024, the debut season of TGL was postponed to 2025. The series will officially kick off on January 7, 2025, with an opening match between The Bay Golf Club and New York Golf Club.
Tiger Woods, representing Jupiter Links Golf Club, will play his first match on January 14, 2025, against Los Angeles Golf Club. In total, the inaugural season will feature 15 matches, culminating in semifinals and finals in March.
