Tiger Woods has enlisted the help of his son, Charlie Woods, in preparation for this week’s US Open at Pinehurst in North Carolina. Woods, 48, is making his first competitive appearance since missing the cut at last month’s US PGA at Valhalla, where he posted rounds of 72 and 77.
After a four-week break from PGA Tour action, Tiger has arrived early at Pinehurst to prepare for the US Open. Last week, he scouted Pinehurst No. 2 with his new caddie, Lance Bennett, and was seen practicing on Sunday with Charlie. Tiger has brought Charlie along to the last two major tournaments of the season to assist with his swing on the practice range.

Charlie, an accomplished golfer with a +3 handicap per the Florida State Golf Association, has often been seen holding a golf club in front of Tiger as he swings. This drill, reminiscent of the one Tiger used to perform with his former coach Butch Harmon, is designed to keep his arms from flinging too far to the right, ensuring a tighter connection between his body and arms throughout the swing.
Charlie has secured two victories on the main junior circuit, with his highlight being the 2023 Notah Begay III Junior Golf Championship (14-15 Division). He has also excelled at the annual PNC Championship alongside his father and recently won the Florida High School Athletic Association Class A State Championship with his school team, Benjamin Boys. His mother, Elin Nordegren, attended the championship ring presentation alongside Tiger. Despite his accomplishments, Charlie fell short in his attempt to qualify for the 2024 US Open, finishing T32 at the Will Lowery Junior Championship.
As he ramps up his preparations for the third major of the season, Tiger is set to play a practice round on Monday with Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas. The 15-time major champion, who has won the US Open three times—in 2000, 2002, and 2008—aims to make a strong showing at Pinehurst.
