Tiger Woods is set to return to action this week at the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational, and all eyes are on who will be on his bag following Joe LaCava’s permanent move to Patrick Cantlay.
Golfweek has learned that seasoned caddie Lance Bennett has been handpicked by Woods for the prestigious assignment at Riviera. Bennett has a history with Woods, having previously caddied for Matt Kuchar, including a notable win at the 2012 Players Championship.
In recent years, Bennett has worked with golfers like Sungjae Im and Davis Riley, as well as spending time on the LPGA Tour with Juli Inkster, Paula Creamer, and Lorena Ochoa. Currently, he’s on the bag for Tour rookie Adrien Dumont de Chassart, who isn’t competing this week, making it convenient for Bennett to join Woods.
While Bennett may be on Woods’ bag for upcoming tournaments like the Players Championship and the Masters, sources suggest Woods might rotate between different caddies.
Rob McNamara, Woods’ longtime business partner, filled in as his caddie at the Hero World Challenge in December and could do so again. Woods also hinted at the possibility of his son Charlie becoming his caddie in the future.
Woods, who last officially competed at the Masters in April, is expected to play a limited schedule focused on major tournaments, depending on his health.
Woods has had notable caddies throughout his career, including Mike “Fluff” Cowan, Steve Williams, and LaCava, whom he joined forces with in 2012.
Efforts to confirm Woods’ caddie with his management team were unsuccessful.
In other caddie news, Paul Tesori has teamed up with Tom Kim, following stints with Webb Simpson and Cameron Young. Tesori expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing faith as a common denominator that could help navigate the challenges of golf.
