Justin Thomas recently shared a memorable exchange with Tiger Woods during a high-pressure moment at the 2019 Presidents Cup. Even though Thomas is currently ranked world No. 30, he didn’t make the team for this year’s Presidents Cup. But back in 2019, he had the privilege of teaming up with Woods, one of golf’s greatest, and faced a particularly tricky shot.
On “The Smylie Show,” Thomas recalled the moment: “We were in a tight match, and I had just sunk an eight-footer to stay tied. On the 16th tee, which is a brutal hole, I asked Tiger for advice.” Woods, in his candid style, gave a direct response: “I don’t care what I have in, just put me in the ——- fairway.”
Though it wasn’t exactly the guidance Thomas was hoping for, it added to the moment’s pressure. “I thought, ‘Well, that doesn’t help much, but thanks, partner!'” Thomas said with a laugh. He went on to hit a controlled driver, managing to find the fairway.
In the end, the duo triumphed, securing a team victory and celebrating the hard-fought win, thanks in part to Woods’ succinct, if not helpful, words.
