Tiger Woods Watches as Son Charlie Scores Five Birdies in Final Round of State Championship
Fifteen-year-old Charlie Woods delivered a stellar performance in the final round of the Florida High School State Championship, making five birdies with his dad, the legendary golfer Tiger Woods, cheering him on. Despite Charlie’s impressive showing, it wasn’t enough to secure another championship title for his school, Benjamin School, which had hoped to defend its previous year’s victory.
Earlier in November, Benjamin School’s boys’ golf team qualified for the state championship by earning a spot in the Class 1A Region 4 tournament. Charlie’s mother, Elin Nordegren, joined Tiger on the sidelines, supporting their son as the team secured a second-place finish behind Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest, earning the right to compete for the state title once again.
At Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, the boys’ team kicked off the two-day state event on Monday. They closed out the opening round tied for ninth place with Lake Mary Prep and Lake Highland Prep, establishing a base to build upon in the final round. Charlie’s individual contribution on day one was a round of 78, six strokes over par, with a highlight birdie on the 14th hole.
However, Wednesday saw a rejuvenated Charlie step up his game. According to The Palm Beach Post’s Alexander Peterman, Charlie, closely watched by his father, demonstrated marked improvement in the final round. He made two birdies on the front nine, then found an even better rhythm on the back nine with three additional birdies, ultimately placing second among his teammates and securing 32nd place individually.
While Benjamin School fell short of winning back-to-back titles, the team finished in the top three, marking a satisfying conclusion to a challenging tournament. This performance added to Charlie’s growing reputation as a skilled golfer under the watchful eye of his famous father.
Reflecting on Charlie’s growth as a player, it’s clear that he’s steadily developing his game. In 2023, during his first state championship, he shot rounds of 78 and 76, ending the tournament in 26th place individually and fourth among his teammates. That year, the Benjamin School clinched its fourth state championship—a feat his father, Tiger, never achieved during his high school years.
