The Toronto Maple Leafs made a significant move by securing center Bobby McMann with a two-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $1.35 million, as announced by the team on Wednesday.
This extension comes at a crucial juncture as McMann was slated to hit unrestricted free agency this summer. His performance this season underscores his value to the team, tallying 10 goals and eight assists, totaling 18 points across 40 games.
McMann’s journey to the NHL has been unconventional. Despite going undrafted after his collegiate career at Colgate concluded in 2019-20, the 27-year-old forward caught the attention of the Maple Leafs organization and signed as a free agent in April 2020.
Standing at an imposing 6-foot-2 and weighing 210 pounds, McMann brings both size and skill to the ice. His contributions haven’t gone unnoticed, particularly in the AHL, where he amassed an impressive 71 points, comprising 49 goals and 22 assists, in 118 career games with the Maple Leafs’ affiliate.
While McMann’s NHL experience is relatively limited, having played just 10 games last season with one assist to his name, his dedication and potential have earned him a vote of confidence from the Maple Leafs’ management with this contract extension.
