Tyrrell Hatton and his father Jeff teamed up for a memorable weekend at the Alfred Dunhill Links Team Championship in Scotland, competing across the renowned courses of St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns. The duo impressed throughout the tournament, finishing just two strokes behind winners Dermot Desmond and Thorbjorn Olesen. However, the event’s standout moment came on Carnoustie’s 18th hole during Friday’s second round.
As Jeff lined up for a long birdie net eagle putt, few anticipated what was about to unfold. Against expectations, he nailed the putt, sparking joy among the spectators. The incredible shot was captured on camera by the DP World Tour, with Tyrrell’s astonished reaction quickly going viral. Tyrrell looked to the sky in disbelief and could be heard saying, “Oh my god,” overwhelmed by the emotion of the moment.
Despite narrowly missing out on the team title, Tyrrell performed admirably in the individual competition. His stellar opening rounds saw him card a seven-under-par on Thursday, followed by an 11-under on Friday. By Saturday, Hatton was in dominant form, boosting his score to 22-under with four birdies in his first eleven holes.
However, the final round proved challenging. A double bogey on the 13th hole and another bogey on the 14th opened the door for Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts to mount a comeback. Yet Hatton stayed composed, sinking a crucial birdie on the last hole to secure his third Dunhill Links Championship title, having previously won in 2016 and 2017.
Reflecting on his victory, Tyrrell was visibly emotional, noting how special it was to win the tournament with his father in attendance for the first time. “It’s the first time I’ve won the tournament with my dad here, so it means a lot. To do it at the home of golf is really special. I’m trying not to cry – I’m a bit lost for words,” he shared after his triumph.

Tyrrell’s 2024 season has been eventful, having moved to the LIV Golf circuit earlier in the year. He now competes alongside stars like Jon Rahm, Kieran Vincent, and Caleb Surratt for the Legion XIII team, which is currently trailing Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC in the LIV standings. Nonetheless, this victory at the Dunhill Links will undoubtedly be a cherished highlight for Tyrrell and his father Jeff.
