John Fury has revealed that ‘backstabbing’ and ‘deceit’ have led him to sever ties with certain family members. Known as the figurehead of the Fury family, John, 59, has played a significant role in the boxing careers of his sons, Tyson and Tommy.
In an interview with the Manchester Evening News, John Fury disclosed that he has had to cut off some unnamed family members due to various disputes. Reflecting on the changes over time, he stated, “Today we’re in a different world. Time has moved on. I’ve moved on. I’m an old man now. I’ve learned better since, but back in the day, we all wanted to be survivors and winners. There’s always a cost. It’s documented. It’s cost me a lot of jail time, a lot of ill feelings, a lot of non-talking.”
He added, “There are members of my family I’m never going to speak to ever again, through the life I’ve led, through the life they’ve led. The deceit, the backstabbing, listening to too many people that don’t know what they’re talking about. I’m guilty of that as well. So are they. But I’m a man who likes my own company. I’ve decided now that at this stage of the game, I’m a one-horse race. I’m out on my own. I don’t bother nobody because the world has passed me by now.”
Despite his brutal honesty, John Fury insists he remains a family man. He tries to lead a modest life despite his and Tyson’s fame, particularly after Tyson recently lost his WBC heavyweight title and unbeaten record to Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk. John described his simple lifestyle, saying, “I’m out with the horse and buggy and people don’t believe you anyway because the people who believed in me, they’re long gone. They’re long gone. You know, you can ask certain people up and down who know John Fury in the Manchester area. They know what kind of character I’ve been. And I had a lot of respect for them, as they have for me. But today’s men, it’s a different ball game, isn’t it?”
Tyson Fury has a rematch with Usyk scheduled for December 21st in Saudi Arabia, just four days before Christmas. In a social media video, Tyson expressed his determination, saying, “We are in training for you now, Usyk. Get well, brother. I will see you in December for the big KO. Big drama show. Get in the Usyk, get in the gym, son. We will be ready.”
