Last year, Woods had to withdraw from The Masters due to plantar fasciitis, a condition aggravated by an arthritic issue in his right ankle stemming from a car crash in February 2021. Following surgery, his return to competitive golf has been sporadic, with his most recent outing at the Genesis Invitational cut short due to illness.
Despite these setbacks, Woods intends to compete at Augusta. However, his close friend Notah Begay III revealed concerns about Woods’ physical state, citing limited mobility in his left ankle and persistent lower back problems.
Although Woods appeared upbeat during a recent practice round with Will Zalatoris, the challenges of a major tournament differ significantly from casual rounds. Yet, if Woods manages to make the cut, he could set a new record for consecutive cuts at The Masters, surpassing Gary Player and Fred Couples.
Since turning professional, Woods has never missed the cut at Augusta, a streak dating back to 1996 when he competed as an amateur. His consistent performances have solidified his status as one of the tournament’s most iconic figures, despite missing several editions due to injuries.
Reflecting on his storied Masters career, Woods has secured five green jackets and numerous other top finishes, showcasing his enduring dominance on golf’s grandest stage. As he prepares for yet another chapter at Augusta, fans eagerly anticipate witnessing his continued pursuit of greatness amidst physical adversity.
