With the 2024 U.S. Open in full swing at Pinehurst No. 2 from June 13-16, all eyes are on Tiger Woods as he aims for his fourth title and a share of the $20 million prize. Alongside him, making headlines, is his new caddie, Lance Bennett.
Tiger Woods, a legend in the golfing world, has always been strategic about his support team. Notably, his son Charlie serves as his swing consultant. However, the spotlight now shines on his new caddie, a role crucial for a golfer’s success. A caddie does more than carry clubs; they provide strategic advice, course insights, and support that can make or break a game.
So, who is Lance Bennett, the man now carrying Tiger’s bag?
Lance Bennett has been a staple on the PGA Tour since 2003, working with top golfers like Matt Kuchar, Sungjae Im, and Davis Riley. Before Lance, Tiger’s caddie roster included Steve Williams and Joe LaCava. After parting ways with Joe LaCava, who now works with Patrick Cantlay, Tiger and Lance teamed up at the Genesis Invitational in February 2024.
Tiger and Lance’s connection goes back to 2013 when Lance caddied for Matt Kuchar. Tiger and Matt’s close rapport led to frequent interactions with Lance, setting the stage for their eventual collaboration. Their bond solidified during events like the Presidents Cup at Muirfield Village, where their approach to the game aligned perfectly.
Tiger praised Lance in a recent press conference, describing him as down-to-earth and loyal, noting their shared perspective on course strategy and reading putts. “I think it’s a great match — we’re going to be a great team and I’m really looking forward to the challenge,” Tiger said.
While Lance Bennett’s exact salary as Tiger’s caddie remains undisclosed, it’s estimated that PGA Tour caddies typically earn between $1,500 and $4,000 per week. Given Tiger’s impressive net worth of $1.1 billion, Lance is likely receiving a generous compensation package.
