It was a very difficult late evening for Polish fans who decided to watch a ski jumping mix contest during the weekend in Lake Placid. The Poles took only the seventh place and were better only than the Japanese, who decided to save their biggest stars. Only Paweł Wąsek stood up to the challenge, which gives the light of hope before Sunday’s competition. Quite unexpectedly, the Germans won, who defeated, among others, the great favorites of the Austrians.

Saturday in Lake Placid for ski jumpers was very intense. A few hours after the competition of women and men, a mix competition was held. Poland was represented by Pola Bełtowska, Anna Twardosz, Aleksander Destroyoł and Paweł Wąsek.

Interestingly, before the start of the competition, the Poles were sure to participate in the second series, because only eight teams joined the competition. Let us recall that in Willingen, the White-Reds finished the struggle already in the first series.

The first representative on the beam was Pola Bełtowska. The Polish rider, who delighted on Friday, jumping 131 m, reached only 85 m on Saturday evening, which was the shortest distance in the first round. Not much better went the Destroyer, which jumped only 110 m. Such attempts meant that at the halfway point the Poles took the last place.

Only 98.5 m was reached by Anna Twardosz. Definitely the best of the Poles in the first series was Paweł Wąsek. The leader of our team jumped 118 m, which only strengthened the White and Reds on the seventh place.

Bełtowska improved in the second series, but 88 m is a small consolation. After the first group, the Poles fell to the last eighth place. It was definitely better in his attempt to destroy. He jumped 117.5 m, thanks to which the White-Reds reduced the loss to the Japanese to less than 6 points!

Twardosz presented herself very restlessly in the air. Strong gusts for the wind, however, gave her 103 m and with a poor attempt of Kikki Sakamoto (84 m), the Poles returned to the seventh place.

Na koniec Wąsek bardzo dobrze zaprezentował się Wąsek. Skoczył 123 m i pozytywnym akcentem zakończył sobotnie skakanie. Biało-Czerwoni zajęli ostatecznie siódme miejsce i wyrównali najlepszy wynik mikstowy w tym sezonie z Lillehammer. Jest jednak niewielkie pocieszenie, patrząc, że przed Polakami znaleźli się Amerykanie i Finowie. Nasza drużyna wyprzedziła jedynie Japonię, która nie wystawiła najmocniejszego składu.

Wygrali Niemcy, którzy dość niespodziewanie pokonali Norwegię i naszpikowaną gwiazdami trzecią Austrię.

To jeszcze nie koniec skakania w Lake Placid. W niedzielę zaplanowany jest drugi z konkursów indywidualnych mężczyzn. Start pierwszej serii już o godz. 16.00. Wcześniej rozegrane zostaną kwalifikacje (godz. 14.30). Relację będzie można śledzić na stronie Przeglądu Sportowego Onet.
