Nelly Korda’s remarkable winning streak of five tournaments came to an end in New Jersey, as she tied for seventh at the Cognizant Founders Cup after weekend rounds of 73-73. Reflecting on her achievement, Korda admitted that the full magnitude of her success had yet to sink in, speculating that it might take weeks, months, or even years for her to truly appreciate it. She expressed hope that someone would eventually surpass her record, displaying humility despite her impressive feat.
Korda’s victorious spree commenced in January, marking her second start of the year. Skipping the tour’s Asia swing, she returned to win the next four tournaments as the tour resumed in the U.S. The streak culminated at the Chevron Championship, where she secured her second major title, joining the esteemed ranks of Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam as the only players in LPGA history to win in five consecutive starts.
Following a brief hiatus, during which she skipped the JM Eagle LA Championship and attended the Met Gala, Korda resumed play at Upper Montclair Country Club. Despite an encouraging start, she faced challenges in the later rounds, ultimately slipping back in the standings. However, undeterred by this setback, Korda expressed excitement for the upcoming events on her schedule.
Looking ahead, Korda eagerly anticipated competing at Liberty National for the Mizuho Americas Open, as well as tackling the prestigious courses lined up for the major championships, including Lancaster Country Club for the U.S. Women’s Open, Sahalee Country Club for the KPMG Women’s PGA, Evian Resort for the Amundi Evian, and the iconic Old Course at St. Andrews for the AIG Women’s Open. Additionally, she expressed aspirations to qualify for the Olympics and Solheim Cup, highlighting the significance of the year ahead.
Despite her impressive accomplishments, Korda remained grounded and focused on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, emphasizing the exciting prospects awaiting her in the upcoming tournaments and events.
