In his first start as a father, World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler created a moment to remember forever.
Scottie Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, welcomed their first child, a boy named Bennett, last week. Scheffler had stated that he would have dropped out of the Masters, even with a lead, to be with his wife for the birth. This commitment to his family also led him to skip the Wells Fargo Championship, a Signature Event on the PGA Tour.

With the break, Scheffler was well-rested and prepared to chase back-to-back major titles after winning the Masters last month. His determination was evident from the start of the PGA Championship’s first round on Thursday.
Scheffler’s opening 324-yard tee shot landed in the right fairway, leaving him 167 yards from the pin. His 9-iron shot bounced about a foot from the hole and rolled directly in for an eagle, setting a strong tone for his quest to achieve the second leg of the career grand slam. “Hello Dad. His first hole as a father is a memorable one,” remarked Jim Nantz, who had predicted Scheffler as a potential winner.
This 167-yard eagle broke Scheffler’s longest hole-out record for the season, previously set at 92 yards during the final round of the Players Championship. Scheffler’s performance at the Players Championship was remarkable, as he staged a dramatic comeback to become the first player to win back-to-back titles in the tournament’s history.
Aside from missing the cut in 2022, Scheffler has shown consistent excellence in his four PGA Championship appearances, with three top-10 finishes. He was the runner-up last year, finished tied for eighth in 2021, and tied for fourth in 2020.
