Wyndham Clark did not accuse Tom Kim of lying but expressed his belief that any “cursing” during last month’s Presidents Cup was only among the American players themselves.
Following a tense Saturday afternoon session, Kim stated that he was confident some American players directed curse words at him. His caddie, Paul Tesori, supported this claim in an interview with SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio, stating that some U.S. team members “got personal” with Kim during the event at Royal Montreal.
Although neither Kim nor Tesori mentioned specific players, social media speculation pointed to Clark as possibly being involved. Clark had been present during the match between Tom Kim/Si Woo Kim and Patrick Cantlay/Xander Schauffele, and was later seen in a video celebrating with a “night night” gesture after the American victory. This was a response to Si Woo Kim’s earlier Stephen Curry-inspired celebration when the match was still tied.
On Tuesday, Clark finally shared his perspective on what some have called “CussGate” during an interview on The Loop podcast. He gave a detailed account of the situation, saying that if players are willing to dish out banter, they should be able to handle it in return.
In addition to discussing the Presidents Cup controversy, Clark reflected on what he feels was an underrated 2024 season for him, following his breakout performance in 2023 as the U.S. Open champion. He also shared his off-season plans, previewed 2025, and questioned a particular narrative surrounding the Olympics that he found puzzling.
