Xander Schauffele secured his second major title of the year by winning the British Open on Sunday. He delivered a stunning performance at Royal Troon with a 6-under 65, overcoming a two-shot deficit. This victory marked a historic sweep for American golfers, with all major titles going to Americans for the first time since 1982.
Earlier in the season, Schauffele clinched the PGA Championship at Valhalla, sinking a crucial 6-foot birdie putt on the final hole. The final round of the British Open was set for high drama, with nine players within three shots of each other. However, Schauffele made it look effortless, playing bogey-free despite a strong, chilly wind. He surged ahead with three birdies in a four-hole stretch early on the back nine, turning a two-shot deficit into a three-shot lead.
At 30 years old, Schauffele, from San Diego, joined Jordan Spieth (2015) as the first player since then to win his first two majors in the same season. He also continued American success at Royal Troon, becoming the seventh American to win the Open in the last eight tournaments held there.
Mackenzie Hughes from Dundas, Ontario, finished as the top Canadian, shooting a 68 on Sunday to end the tournament tied for 16th at 2-over.
