Luke Donald, gearing up for his role as the European captain in the upcoming 2025 Ryder Cup, recently hit the Bethpage Black course alongside his assistant, Edoardo Molinari. If all goes as planned, Donald will make history by becoming the first Ryder Cup leader since Bernard Gallacher in 1995 to captain consecutive events, returning to his position in the United States next autumn.
Last October, Donald led Europe to a resounding victory on home soil, defeating their American counterparts 16.5-11.5 at Marco Simone. Despite the event being over a year away, the Englishman has wasted no time in starting his Bethpage studies, having already played the challenging New York course with vice-captain Molinari.

On the other side of the Atlantic, American rivals are yet to announce their captain for the event, following a lackluster performance in Italy. However, speculation is rife that Tiger Woods, with his extensive Ryder Cup experience, may spearhead Team USA’s comeback on home turf. Woods, who has participated in eight Ryder Cups, winning 13 matches and losing 21, recently hinted at discussions with PGA of America chief Seth Waugh regarding the captaincy.
Despite Woods’ return to competitive golf at last month’s Masters, no official announcement has been made regarding the captaincy, leaving fans and pundits in anticipation. Meanwhile, the European team’s preparations for 2025 have been bolstered by their visit to Bethpage, with Donald already appointing two vice-captains for the event.
Joining Molinari is former Rome assistant and 2018 captain Thomas Bjorn, a trusted ally of Donald’s. Donald expressed his excitement over Bjorn’s involvement, highlighting their strong relationship and the importance of enjoying the journey alongside trusted companions.
With their sights set on securing their first away victory since 2012, when Jose Maria Olazabal’s team famously triumphed at the Miracle at Medinah, Donald and his team are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations for the prestigious event.
