Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury are set to face off once again for heavyweight supremacy later this year. These two fighters, considered among the best of their generation, have claimed all the major belts between them over the past few years. The much-anticipated undisputed title fight took place in May, with Usyk securing a points decision victory after a closely contested 12 rounds.
In that bout, Usyk added Fury’s WBC, Lineal, and Ring Magazine titles to his collection, which already included the WBA, WBO, and IBF belts he won from Anthony Joshua in consecutive victories in 2021 and 2022.
Both fighters have acknowledged making mistakes in their first encounter and have vowed to be better prepared when they step into the ring for the rematch on December 21 in Saudi Arabia.
Before their first clash, Usyk spoke to Seconds Out about Fury’s greatest asset, identifying his size as a significant advantage but noting that it could also be a disadvantage. “His biggest asset is that he is very big. But in different circumstances, it could not be an asset as I use everything against him,” Usyk said.
When asked about Fury’s resilience, given that he has been knocked down but never knocked out, Usyk praised his opponent’s tenacity. “Fury is a great fighter, just because even if he falls, he always stands and that makes him one of the champions,” he remarked.
It is no surprise that Usyk highlighted Fury’s size, as he is naturally the smaller man. The Ukrainian fighter, who was dominant in the cruiserweight division and achieved undisputed status there, has hinted at a possible return to that division following his second fight with Fury.
